Floor Types:
|
Solid
|
Any floor that is one piece of wood from top to bottom. This flooring can only be
installed on the ground level of a house or higher. It comes in different cuts,
widths and thicknesses which give you endless options. Solid flooring is either
stapled or nailed down. |
|
Engineered |
Made out of 3 – 7 layers of wood which are glued together. The grain on each
layer is perpendicular to the next. This gives engineered flooring the unmatched
stability to moisture changes. The top, finished layer is the hardwood and the thickness
of it varies. This flooring can be installed below grade (i.e. basements) and higher.
Special applications: concrete slabs, radiant heat. This floor can be stapled, glued
or floated. |
|
Laminate |
This product is a photocopy of wood flooring that is fused to a particleboard. This
flooring is usually floated and is suitable for both residential and commercial
applications. |
Floor Finishes:
|
Oil Base |
A surface finish polyurethane which forms a durable film-like protective coat over
the wood. This finish dries overnight and ambers over time. |
|
Water Base |
A surface finish that does not amber over time like the oil base. This finish has
a milder odor and dries in a few hours. |
